This Article Written by John Cammidge
What is the title tag? The title tag is a piece of hypertext mark-up language (HTML) code that is displayed at the top left section of a web browser. The title is placed in the code of your HTML document near to the top. Below is an example code of the title tag: < Title >Title tag goes here< /title > Why use a title tag? A title tag is required for a few reasons; firstly it is important in giving your visitors information on what the page is about. Secondly it shows the search engine what your page is about. As you may well know the search engines use the title tag as one of its deciding factors on how to rank you in the search engine results page. Dos with title tag? • The title tag should be brief and include your webpage topic • It would be recommended for optimisation purposes to add your most important keyword in the title tag • Include keywords that are used in your body text (it is best to use a keyword that actually appears on the body of your HTML document) Don’ts with title tag? • Don’t stuff the title tag with keywords (known as keyword stuffing) • Don’t use too much text in the title tag, keep it short and descriptive Okay that was part 1, hope you understood and enjoyed it so far, come back soon for part 2 The Meta description tag.
